The Historic Railroad Square Association wishes to acknowledge the kind donations from the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel, TEA Properties, Whistlestop Antiques, and the D’Argenzio Family & Winery in providing our traditional First Friday carriage rides.

What is Railroad Square? Historic Railroad Square is Santa Rosa’s specialty shopping and dining district. There are a variety of eclectic shops, antiques, nearly two dozen award winning restaurants, wine shops and coffee houses, plus three distinctive hotels. At night, Railroad Square comes alive with restaurants full of happy people and local theater performances and live entertainment and dancing to enjoy.

History: As a locally recognized Preservation District and honored by a listing on the National Register of Historic Places, Railroad Square’s architecture represents an authentic commercial district of the early 1900’s.  Former brick warehouses and restored Mission style turn-of-the-century buildings are home to specialty shops and restaurants. The beautifully preserved basalt stone buildings~ the venerable Hotel La Rose, Western Hotel and 1904 Northwestern Pacific Railroad Train Depot, and the former REA Building (now A’Roma’s) were built by Italian stone masons from large rocks quarried in the nearby hills. Many more of these cobblestones were sold to San Francisco to pave their many streets. The Depot was one of the few buildings that survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and now serves as the California Welcome Center and Santa Rosa’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, a must stop for locals and visitors alike.

Special Events:
Railroad Square is most proud of the bronze statues of Charlie Brown and Snoopy which were installed as a tribute to the late Charles M. Schulz. These endearing characters are always front and center for the many events hosted in Railroad Square, including the Tour of California Cycling event,  Railroad Square Days, The Taste of Railroad Square, The Great Hand-car Regatta and the Halloween Railroad Scare. During First Fridays on Fourth, artists will exhibit their works throughout Depot Park.

Mission: The Historic Railroad Square Association is a 501©3 not for profit organization whose mission is to restore, preserve and promote the historic district. Business and property owners pay dues to this all volunteer organization which has served its members since 1975.
